First Feminist Rant

Sometimes it is good to vent, other times, it is good to tell the truth.

I never really understood the degree to which I developed a hate towards certain video games until I had the joy of stumbling across this one. What happened to the good games?

Peace,

Kerrilynn

Although my partner is not a "gamer", he loves his Grand Theft Auto.

I watch sometimes when he plays and have definitely noticed the way women are portrayed. The boyfriends use words like "ho" and "whore" etc. to describe their girlfriends; the women are often at home, waiting for their boyfriends to come and get them and when the boyfriends (finally!) show up, the girls badger their boyfriends for never calling/visiting. Basically the girlfriends are very whiny and ANNOYING, which I don't think is an accurate portrayal of all women.

Sometimes the girlfriends go on the missions with the boyfriends and make commentary the entire time. Again, very whiny and annoying. They don't add anything to the game, and I often wonder why the creators of Grand Theft Auto decided to include them.

When I think about it, a close study of the women in the Grand Theft Auto games would be quite an interesting blog post...

...I'll be back someday to post my observations.

In the meantime, I'll stick to my Bejewelled and Pac-Man. :)
